Former Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdullah Shamal has retired after 35 years of service.

Shamal took over the post in December, 2018 during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and retired from the

army yesterday.

Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Major General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latif to the post. Prior to his appointment as Chief of Defense Force, Abdul Raheem served as Vice Chief of Defence.

Abdul Raheem joined the army on February 18, 1985.

The retirement of Shamaal followed the news that the former Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed has also retired from service after more than 25 years in the Police force.
