New Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer has said that he looks forward to working with his Indian counterpart Dr. S Jaishankar.

Zameer made the comments in response to a social media post by the Indian External Affairs Minister congratulating his Maldivian counterpart on his appointment as the Foreign Minister.

In his welcoming post, Jaishankar said he looked forward to working closely with Zameer to further strengthen the long-standing special relationship between Maldives and India.

In response, the Foreign Minister said he too looked forward to working with his Indian counterpart on issues of mutual interest and concern. Minister Zameer also said that he wants to recalibrate and advance the time-tested relationship between our two countries for the betterment of our people.

One of the most important promises of the new government that took office yesterday is to send back Indian troops to Maldivian. Repeating that promise several times, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said the Indian troops would be withdrawn peacefully.
