The local woman who was arrested for attacking a store clerk with a sharp object has been released from police custody.
The suspect in this crime has been identified as 29-year-old Fathimath Shahudha from Thaa Thimarafushi.
The attack happened last month and the suspect was arrested on the 7th of October with 15 days of remand custody issued to her on that day.
Her remand custody was extended for another 15 days on the 23rd of last month but she was released on the 7th of this month after that 15 days were up as the court did not see that the suspect should be kept under police custody.
A video that circulated on social media following the incident showed that the attack happened inside the "Dreams Mobile" store in Male'.
A woman, who appears to be a customer, approaches the store clerk behind the counter and asks to be shown a model of a mobile phone.
But the woman then seems unhappy with what was shown to her and both exchange words with the customer looking angry. The store clerk then takes a step back and appears to call someone on his own phone while the woman looks behind to check if anyone is coming before taking out a weapon, reaching over the counter, and slashing the clerk on his neck before rushing out of the store.
The clerk then holds his wounds with his hands and the video shows that the man was bleeding from the wound. The man sought treatment for his injuries at ADK Hospital.
