The National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC) has launched an investigation into whether Maldivians have traveled to Palestinian territory to fight against occupied Israeli forces.
NCTC Director General Zakaria Mansour told The Press that the NCTC had been notified of a Facebook post claiming that three Maldivians had gone to Palestine for jihad.
He said that NCTC is working to identify who made the post but has yet been unable to do so. He said the NCTC is not yet aware of any Maldivians going to Palestine for jihad.
A user named Ahmed Firaz posted on Facebook that 3 Maldivians have safely traveled to Jordan and are next going to take out the perilous journey into occupied Palestinian territories.
The NCTC yesterday tweeted that people are being led towards terrorism by playing with emotions by taking advantage of the weaknesses created by the situation. And by developing intelligence, thinking skills, and learning knowledge, you can protect yourself from such things.
Travel to foreign wars and conflict zones is prohibited by the Prevention of Terrorism Act. According to the law, anyone going to provide aid to a war zone must obtain a special permit.
