The Criminal Court has extended the remand custody of the local woman who was arrested for attacking a store clerk with a sharp object.
The suspect in this crime has been identified as 29-year-old Fathimath Shahudha from Thaa Thimarafushi. Her remand custody was extended for 15 days after the first 15 days issued following her arrest for the attack expired.
Court documents said that there is sufficient evidence that support the allegations against the suspect and this includes the incident report from the officers who attended the call.
The Court document also indicates there are CCTV Snapshots of the incident and the CCTV footage from the store itself that support the allegations against the woman.
The Court said that the decision to extend the woman's remand custody was based on the Criminal Procedure Act as she posed a threat to society. The 29-year-old has previous records of such crimes.
A video that circulated on social media following the incident showed that the attack happened inside the "Dreams Mobile" store in Male'.
A woman, who appears to be a customer, approaches the store clerk behind the counter and asks to be shown a model of a mobile phone.
But the woman then seems unhappy with what was shown to her and both exchange words with the customer looking angry. The store clerk then takes a step back and appears to call someone on his own phone while the woman looks behind to check if anyone is coming before taking out a weapon, reaching over the counter, and slashing the clerk on his neck before rushing out of the store.
The clerk then holds his wounds with his hands and the video shows that the man was bleeding from the wound. The man sought treatment for his injuries at ADK Hospital.
