Police are searching the building that houses the Football Association of the Maldives (FAM) in relation to the corruption investigation against it.

Police said that they were implementing a court order as per the request of the Prosecutor General's Office to collect evidence that might assist in the corruption investigation against FAM.

The Outlet has come to know that the Police are investigating allegations that the FAM misused funds it had received from foreign donors.

The Prosecutor General's Office said that Maldives is a country that has fostered relationships with many global organizations and that it is vital that the integrity of government organizations is always maintained as it pertains to the country's interest as a whole.

The Office continued that it has asked the Police to conduct an investigation into the allegations of FAM exploiting funds and if the FAM has committed crimes like embezzlement, theft, and money laundering.

While Police was searching the FAM Office, embattled President of the FAM Bassam Adeel Jaleel was there at the premise.

The FAM's debt have ballooned over the years and there have been reports that the organization have been unable to pay their administrative staff as well as the former national team coach along with his coaching team and some national team players.

But FAM has denied these reports.
