Transitional Spokesperson Mohamed Firuzul Abdullah Haleel says if the healthcare system continues as it is now, authorities might be forced to halt many healthcare services by the middle of next month.

Speaking at his routine press briefing today, Firuzul said that the current standard procedure in the healthcare system was to order consumables twice in each year.

However, he said that this year, consumables have not been ordered for the last six months of the year.

Firuzul said that because of this many hospitals and health centers under the Health Ministry have been forced to halt healthcare services.

He further said that if the current situation is allowed to continue, hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country would be forced to withhold some of their services by the middle of next month.

He explained that hospitals were now dipping into their emergency stockpiles to continue giving services to the public.

Firuzul said that consumables were not ordered because the budget for them did not come through and said that it was highly concerning that the services of the hospitals and laboratories came to a halt because of the lack of these items.

He also noted that the Transitional Committee was finding it difficult to communicate with the main hospitals across the country and that more information could be collected with better communication.
