The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has congratulated President-Elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu after he won the Presidential Run-Off against incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
In a post via 'X', the Indian Prime Minister offered congratulations and greetings to Muizzu for being elected as President of the Maldives.
Modi further said that India remains committed to strengthening the time-tested Indian-Maldives bilateral relationship and enhancing the two countries' overall cooperation in the Indian Ocean.
Muizzu, who is also the Mayor of Male' City, secured the Presidency by winning a staggering 127,927 votes in the election run-off held yesterday.
President Solih also secured a commendable 109,261 votes as he sought a historical re-election.
Last night, the President accepted defeat and congratulated Muizzu for his victory. President Solih went on to thank the Maldivian people for showing a great example of how the democratic process can prevail and thanked all the supporters who voted for him.
