Voting in the Presidential Run-Off has begun in the Maldives as the country decides its President for the next five years.
Voting began at 08:00 a.m. across the country and would continue till 05:00 p.m. today. The Elections Commission added an extra hour after they assessed the experience of the first round of voting in the election held on the 9th of this month.
Voting for the first round was held from 08:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m.
The two candidates who received the highest number of votes in the first round of the election are competing in the Run-Off and they are PNC Presidential Candidate Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and MDP Presidential Candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Muizzu came in first in the first round of voting by securing an impressive 101,635 votes while President Solih also secured 86,161 votes in the first round.
For the Run-Off, 282,804 individuals are eligible to vote with more than 400 new voters this round.
The Elections Commission has placed 586 ballot boxes across the country including 187 ballot boxes in the Greater Male' area, 3,119 in the inner islands, and 5 in the resorts.
