Maldives Meteorological Services Met Office has issued a yellow alert for the central Atoll amid a spot of bad weather in the country.

It said just now via 'X' that the yellow alert would be issued from Shaviyani Atoll to Vaavu Atoll from 01:00 p.m. to 05:00 p.m. today.

The Met Office said that during this period torrential rain and thunderstorms with gusts of 45 MPH are expected in the region.

Authorities urge seafarers to be cautious of the weather when the Met Office issues yellow alerts for bad weather conditions.

Torrential rain followed by flooding has affected central parts of the country this month.

Last week Nationa Disaster Management Authority NDMA said that around 84 households from 4 islands have reported damage from flood following excessive raining in the country this month.

It said that this includes 66 houses from Lhaviyani Kurendhoo which reported the most damage as well as 15 houses from Alifu Alifu Ukulhas.

NDMA also said that 1 house from Alifu Alifu Feridhoo reported damage while Feydhoo Island from the Southern City of Addu had 2 houses with flood damage.

The Authority assured that it assessed the damage to these houses and are now assissting these households.
