Independent Candidate Faris Maumoon says both PNC Presidential Candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and MDP Candidate Ibrahim Mohamed have made contact with his team ahead of the run-off election.
While 8 candidates contested in the Presidential Election first round held last Saturday, none of the candidates were able to secure an outright majority of the votes.
PNC Candidate Muizzu won 101,635 votes and claimed 1st place in the first round of voting followed by President Solih who received 86,161.
This means the election would now be decided in a run-off between Muizzu and Solih. Both candidates are expected to form coalitions with the remaining candidates and both camps have now begun formal and informal talks to form partnership ahead of the next round of voting.
Son of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom confirmed via X that both camps have now contacted him and his team with the view of working together in the next round.
Faris said that he will be restarting his team's positions as announced in the manifesto. He said that no decision had been made yet and that he would make a public announcement once it had been decided.
Faris, who stepped down as the leader of MRM to compete in the election as a independent candidate, received 2,979 votes in the first round of voting.
