The President of the Elections Commission Fuwad Thaufeek confirms that voters who want to change the place of voting for the Presidential run-off would be given the chance to do so.

Yesterday, the country voted in the first round of the elections and while 8 candidates contested for the Presidency, no candidate was able to secure outright 50 percent to become the next president of the country.

The election would now be decided in a run-off between the top two candidates. PNC Candidate Dr.Mohamed Muizzu claimed the highest number of votes while MPD Candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih came in second.

President of the Commission Fuad said that while voters who wish to change their place of voting for the next round would be given the chance to do so, a very short period of just 2 days would be given for re-registration.

He said via X that as of now, the Commission had allocated 16 and 17 of this month as re-registration dates but it would officially announce the dates and gazette it accordingly.

The run-off is scheduled to be held on the 30th of this month.

A total of 282,395 are eligible for the election but the Commission said that the voter turnout for the first round was at 79 percent which is 10 percent lower than the 2018 Presidential Election.
