MDP Presidential Candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says utility company Fenaka was not founded to make a profit for the Government.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaram, President Solih noted that many from the opposition were speaking about Fenaka. President Solih noted that Fenaka would be providing electricity, water, and sanitation services on the islands and that if the island had an Ice Plant, it would also be operated by the company.

President Solih said that to give all these services, the company needs a number of employees and that he never intended to make a huge profit from the utility company.

He said that Fenaka is providing essential services to the people and that the aim was to provide these services to as many people as possible.

President Solih further said that he was content with just getting by with revenue from the company and that this company was never formed to make a profit for the government.

Noting that Fenaka provides an opportunity for those employed under the company to work from their own islands, President Solih said that the company would hire more employees from the islands.

His comments were made in response to allegations made by the opposition saying that Fenaka is currently overstaffed. They said that 30 to 40 staff are currently employed at Engine houses that can be operated by just 5 employees.
