Tourism Minister Dr. Abdullah Mausoom rejoins the ruling Maldives Democratic Party MDP 9 years after he left the party.

At a ceremony held last night, Minister Mausoom who recently left the Jumhooree Party handed over his membership form to the Party's Presidential Candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Also at the ceremony, several ex-members of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's MRM also signed for MDP.

The Tourism Minister initially joined the now-dissolved DRP and then had a stint in MDP before joining the Jumhooree Party in May of 2014.

He got the post of Tourism Minister as a member of the Jumhooree Party but he had isolated himself from party activities recently. He then announced that he had decided to leave the party on the 7th of this month.

Since Jumhooree Party leader Gasim Ibrahim announced that the party would compete in the Presidential Elections individually, a number of members left the party.

These include several high-ranking officials in the coalition government who were appointed to slots allocated for the Jumhooree Party. These officials include the Immigration Controller Mohamed Ahmed Hussain as well as MWSC Managing Director Hassan Shahu.
