Maldives Swimming Association says it has closed down the Male' Swimming Track on the orders of the Health Protection Agency because of water contamination.
The Association said that the latest tests of the water from the Swimming track showed that it had been contaminated with human waste.
It further said that HPA ordered that the track be closed down due to the contamination as well as the change in weather conditions and that it would not be safe for swimmers.
The Association said that it closed down the swimming track starting this morning and apologized for any inconvenience caused by the closure.
It further said that authorities would continue testing the waters of the swimming track and that it would open up the track once the relevant authority gives the green light for the track.
The contamination of the swimming track comes as the capital Male' continue to grapple with the widespread of the noro virus which causes diarrhea and vomitting.
