MDP Presidential Candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says his administration has been able to complete five years in power without arresting any political leaders.
He made the comments at the campaign rally in Gaafu Dhaalu Gadhoo last night.
President Solih said that when the country faced the 2018 presidential election most of the political leaders were either in jail or in exile. He noted that when he came into power, he pledged that there would be no political arrests in the country and that he has been able to round off 5 years in power without arresting political leaders.
He also said that his administration did not have to 'lift' the roof of any court. He was referring to the incident back in February of 2018 when then-President Abdullah Yameen ordered the armed forces to barge into the Supreme Court after its ruling to release 9 political prisoners among other things.
In his speech, President Solih also touched on the development projects in Gahdhoo and said that in the second phase of the road development project currently underway on the island, all the roads on the island would be developed.
He pledged that his administration would also dregde 30 hecters of land and build 100 row houses on this land as well as build a new building for polytechinc.
He also pledged to connect Gahdhoo with the nearby Gan.
