The MDP Campaign Hall in Gaafu Dhaalu Madaveli has been set on fire as the island prepared to welcome MDP Presidential Candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Police said today that they received a report that the venue for the MDP meeting was the subject of an arson attack and that they received the report around 05:34 in the morning.
They said that officers present at the scene and members of the public joined to extinguish the fire and that the fire was put out shortly after it started.
Police said that they have not made an arrest regarding the incident but assured that they are currently investigating the attack.
The Police assurance came after Defense Minister Maria Ahmed Didi called on the police to launch an investigation into the arson attack on the MDP Hall.
The Defense Minister via Twitter said that the President's campaign office condemned the arson attack on the MDP Hall in Madaveli.
She called on all parties to refrain from violence and to let the democratic processes take place as per the Constitution.
