The deadline day for filing the candidacy ahead of the presidential elections would also be a busy day for the members of the Elections Commission and especially President of the Commission Fuwad Thaufeeq.

With photo lineups with each candidate scheduled, the day could have not fallen on a more tragic day for the President of the Commission.

News broke earlier today that his 47-year-old son Ahmed Fuwad passed away in Kims hospital in the Indian city of Trivandrum. Ahmed Fuad is the second eldest child of Fuad Thaufeeq and he is believed to have passed away due to cardiac arrest. Though it had been reported that Ahmed Fuwad had been undergoing treatment for a liver condition for some time.

No one would have battered an eye, had the President of the Commission stepped away from his duties today to grieve for his loss.

But many are praising the ever-faithful veteran head of the Commission for his resilience by opting to keep performing his duties despite what can only be described as a gut-wrenching loss.

While a total of 9 candidates submitted their candidacy applications, five of those submitted theirs today, and the President of the Commission accepted all five candidacy forms as well as sitting through a press briefing.

The coming days can only get busier for President of the Commission Fuwad and his colleagues as the country gear up for the election scheduled for 9th September. One can only hope that the President of the Commission is afforded ample time to grieve for his loss.

We at the Press offer our condolences to the President of the Elections Commission and pray that he and his family are given strength to endure this tragic loss.
