Three independent candidates have filed their candidacies ahead of the September Election.
This includes Former Home Minister Umar Naseer who filed his Presidential Candidacy for the September election as the application for candidacy comes to a close today.
Umar was joined by his running mate former Deputy Minister at the Home Ministry Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem).
His candidacy form was accepted by the President of the Elections Commission Fuwad Thaufeeq.
Meanwhile, fellow independent candidate and President of MRM Faris Maumoon has also filed his candidacy ahead of the deadline today.
Faris, who received the backing of his father, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, filed his candidacy with more than 2,662 signatures.
He had chosen Dr. Abdul Sattar Yoosuf as his running mate.
Former Deputy Minister of Defense Ministry Hassan Zameel also filed his candidacy today.
With the candidacy application now closed, a total of 9 individuals filed candidacies for the September elections.
This includes former President Abdullah Yameen whose candidacy was rejected by the Commission and MDP's Presidential candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
MNP, JP, and PNC have all fielded candidates for the election, and three independent candidates have also filed their submissions today.
