MDP says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has chosen the MP for Hithadhoo Uthuru Constituency Mohamed Aslam as his running mate as the President seeks a second term in power.

This was confirmed by MDP Spokesperson Anas Abdul Sattar via Twitter minutes ago.

Last Wednesday on a campaign trip to Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo, President said that he would choose a running mate and file his candidacy on the next day.

But Thursday came and went without a decision from the President over his running mate and his camp remained inactive with his candidacy.

The President said before that Vice President Faisal Naseem's name was among the list of candidates for his running mate and that MDP and coalition members would decide on the matter.

The Vice President belongs to Jumhooree Party which had decided to leave the September election and field its own candidate.

The Press made several attempts to contact the President's Election Agent MP for Kinbidhoo Constituency Mohamed Nashiz and have been unble to get hold of him for three days.
