Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed says individuals who come into power in the Maldives must disclose their health to the public.
He made the comments at the Democrats Campaign rally held in Thaa Kinbidhoo last night.
Nasheed said that he spoke about rulers disclosing their health information to the public before and that some people were left disheartened by these comments.
He said that however, in a democracy, the health information of a person who comes into power must be publically disclosed and if the President is suffering from affliction it should also be made public.
Speaking after Nasheed, Democratic Presidential Candidate Ilyas Labeeb said that he would publish his health certificate and that right now he was in good health.
Ilyas also said that he was healthy and very eager to compete in the Presidential race and would gladly stay up for 24 hours working on it.
Nasheed previously spoke about the health condition of the current President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at a campaign rally, saying that the President had to take a handful of pills each morning to maintain his health and implied that the President suffers from a heart condition.
