Police say 6 individuals were taken under custody last night when scuffles broke out between the police and anti-government protesters in the Southern City of Fuvahmulah.
The scuffles broke out when opposition protesters gathered near the area where President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was leading a campaign rally.
Violence ensued when police officers present in the area attempted to push back protesters and protesters hurled rocks at the police. Police then used pepper spray to disperse the crowd and resume control of the area.
Police said to the 'Press' that 7 officers were injured in the violence and that they all sought treatment from the hospital but have been now released.
Police also said that 6 protesters were taken under custody from the scene for disobeying police orders and that three have been released.
They also said another individual was arrested for threatening to harm the police and that the Police were further investigating the matter.
Opposition protesters had also gathered at the airport area ealier in the day and voiced their displeasure against the President but there too police quelled the protests and some were seen taken under police custody.
