The mother of jailed ex-President Abdullah Yameen has passed away.
Fathimath Hassan passed away earlier today in Sri Lanka. It has been reported that the former President's mother passed away after being ill for some time.
The 85-year-old had been living in Sri Lanka with relatives.
Fathimath Hassan is also the stepmother of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
She was from Noonu Velidhoo.
Fathimath Hassan passed away leaving 6 children in her wake.
Yameen remains in jail since last year after he was convicted of money laundering and accepting bribes in relation to the lease of Vaa Aarah. He was sentenced to 11 years in jail and his appeal process at the High Court in an attempt to vacate the conviction seems unlikely to be concluded soon.
