Maldives Correctional Services have offered its assistance to help jailed ex-President Abdullah Yameen fill out his candidacy application form.

Yameen is currently serving an 11-year jail sentence in Maafushi jail after he was found guilty of money laundering and accepting bribes last year in the leasing of Vaa Aarah.

But since he is the opposition's Presidential Candidate for the September election, it is expected that Yameen would submit his candidacy application to the Elections Commission in the coming days.

The Commission opened the candidacy application on Sunday and it would be accepting forms till the 7th of next month.

Several sources have said that the opposition has sought the help of the Correctional Services to help them fill out Yameen's candidacy form.

Correctional Services said to the media that since the opposition has sought its assistance to file Yameen's candidacy, it would help with the proceedings.

This comes after the ex-President's legal team was denied a meeting with their client by the Correction Service yesterday after they had refused to be searched before the meeting at the Maafushi jail.
