Authorities in Singapore have seized the passport of MP for Meedhoo Constituency businessman Ahmed Siyam Mohamed.
Singaporean authorities seized the passport of Siyam, who is also the leader of the Maldives Democratic Alliance MDA when he arrived in the island nation last Monday.
It is believed Siyam's passport was seized in relation to the Hilton case.
The Hilton case related to a case presided by Singapore's arbitration court in 2013 when it ruled the decision to revoke the agreement between the hotel chain and Siyam's Sun Travel to develop the Irufushi resort in Noonu Atoll back in 2007 was illegal.
The Court ordered Siyam's company to pay MVR 24 million in compensation.
Reports have said that Siyam traveled to Singapore to attend the Court summons as the company has not paid the compensation fee.
The Singaporean High Court has ordered Sun Travel to pay the compensation fee within three months.
Siyam traveled to Singapore amid his campaign trip with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as MDA has formed a coalition with MDP for the September Presidential Elections.
