President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says starting the satellite school services in Meemu Atoll Raimandhoo would allow the students of the island to complete grade 10 without having to leave their families.

The President made the remarks while speaking at a community gathering on Raimandhoo as he visited the island during his current campaign tour of the Meemu Atolls.

The 2022 Census shows that Raimandhoo has a population of just 118 and that only 14 students are studying in the school. While the students can only study up to grade 6 from the school, President Solih said that if the residents of the island want their children to finish school from the island, such arrangements can be made too.

President Solih further said that the government can set up a satellite school for the students of Raimandhoo that would allow them to finish their studies while with their families on the island.

He invited the island council to hold discussions with the Education Ministry in this regard.

The President noted that islands with a small population might now be important for those campaigning for the Presidency but his vision was to bring development for the whole of the Maldives.

He went on to highlight the projects now completed on the island including its new Engine house and noted that work on its water and sanitation system as well as the new Council Office were underway too.
