The Maldives welcomes the 1 millionth tourist to visit the country this year.

Tourism Ministry officials named the 1 millionth tourist as Anton Pavlov, a Russian who visited the Maldives on holiday with his wife and son.

He was given a warm welcome at a ceremony attended by top officials from the Tourism Ministry, MMPRC, MACL as well as Immigration.

The Maldives reached its 1 millionth tourist target this year almost a month earlier than last year. In 2022, Maldives recorded its 1 millionth on the 12th of August.

At the start of the year, the government set the target of reaching 1.81 million tourists for the year 2023. But seeing how the tourism industry have improved over the last few months, the target was changed to 1.93.

The country is expected to meet its target in the next 5 months.

Tourism Minister Dr. Abdullah Mausoom remains confident that the Maldives would easily reach its target this year as the numbers are set to increase in peak tourist season in the Maldives which he said would begin after August.
