MDP's Social Media activist Shamoon Jaleel (Lucas) resigns from his political post at the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage.
Lucas has been filling the post of director at the Ministry.
He shared his resignation letter on Twitter today in which he said that he would be resigning from his political post starting today. In the letter addressed to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Lucas said that the opportunity to serve in the government was an experience. He then thanked the President for always being cordial to him.
Many on social media welcomed his decision and praised him for taking such a 'bold' step forward.
Though Lucas has resigned from his government post, he did not mention leaving MDP. But the Social Media activist has always been an avid supporter of former MDP President Mohamed Nasheed who resigned from the party last month after 17 years with the party.
Nasheed, who is also the Speaker of the Parliament, is expected to sign for the newly registered The Democrats tonight at its rally and the party has invited members of the public to sign for the party alongside him.
