Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb departs for Singapore after he was granted permission by Maldives Correctional Services yesterday.
Adeeb was recently admitted to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital Emergency Services and his party Maldives Third-way Democrats MTD stated that Adeeb is suffering from a serious and life-threatening medical condition related to neurology.
The Party said last night that upon the recommendation of multiple doctors from various hospitals, Adeeb has departed to Singapore to receive further medical treatment.
It further said that both the Correctional Service and Police will be closely monitoring his trip and ensuring his security throughout.
This has been confirmed by the Correctional Services when it announced that it would be giving Adeeb permission to go abroad.
Correctional Services said via Twitter that permission was granted to Adeeb to go abroad for medical purposes as he must do diagnostic tests that are not available in the Maldives.
It said that the permission was given upon the recommendation of the Medical Board.
Adeeb is serving a 20-year jail sentence after he was found guilty of the 7 charges filed against him in relation to the MMPRC scandal. But currently, he is serving the sentence under house arrest.
