Police have assured that they would conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged sexual assault case that was reported to the Police on the 11th of this month.
The case in question relates to a Chinese student who alleged that she was reported by a local on the Ritz Carlton Fari island resort earlier this month. The victim of the case has sent letters to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed appealing for justice.
In a statement today, Police said that upon receiving the information, Maldives Police Service promptly responded to the incident deploying forensic teams to the scene to gather crucial evidence.
It said that necessary forensic samples were collected and initial statements were taken from the parties involved. Police said that the victim was provided with immediate medical assistance and support.
It said that at this stage, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident but assured that the Police want to assure the public that all necessary investigative actions are taken to ensure a comprehensive examination of the case.
Police said that it takes reports of alleged sexual assault with the utmost seriousness and professionalism.
It further said that the Police were awaiting the results of the forensic samples taken from both the victim and the individual in question. The police assured that their investigators are meticulously following all lines of inquiry and conducting a diligent analysis of the evidence gathered.
It said that further updates would be provided once additional findings emerge from the investigation.
