The opposition has strongly condemned the government's alleged atrocities against the people and called for action.
The opposition said the government sent gangs to disrupt the peaceful protest by the people (PPP and PNC supporters) last night. It said that these agents threw bottles at the protesters which made the Police use excessive force at the behest of the government and sprayed the opposition protesters with pepper spray.
The Opposition said that police sprayed its Senator and the MP for Faresmathoda Constituency Hussain Mohammed Latheef directly in his face and that he had to be treated at the hospital.
It accused the police targeted members of the media who had been wearing press passes and deliberately damaging their expensive equipment.
The opposition also said highlighted indiscriminate police violence against people with special needs, women, and senior citizens and labeled it as shameful.
The opposition argued that such violence has prevailed because the institutions entrusted with the legal responsibility of preventing such inhuman acts are reluctant to fulfill their responsibilities assigned to them and the constitution and laws.
