Newly formed party, the Democrats say the current administration is dismissing government employees joining the party because of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's cowardice.

The Democrats, given the permission to get the 3,000 members needed for registration, is the breakaway faction of the ruling MDP that back party President and Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Yesterday, it was reported that the government started firing political appointees who are signing for the Democrats.

In a statement, the Democrats condmened the government action against former MDP political appointees and said that those who have been dismissed include young political leaders whose contributions to end the last regime cannot be measured.

The Democrats further said that even with political differences, firing educated and highly-capable individuals from government jobs make the country's future uncertain.

The party highlighted that the ruling MDP has failed to take action against coalition members who have publically announced their intent to compete seperately in the upcoming elections.

It accused the government of actively trying to hinder the party's growth after being intimated by how much of a following it had amassed.

The Democrats added that this shows the tyranny and discrimination of the current administration.
