Planning Minister Mohamed concedes that the Greater Male' Connectivity project that connects Male', Villimale' and Thilafushi is behind schedule.
The Minister made the comments at the parliament today when he was summoned to question about the project.
MP for Maafannu Medhu Constituency Ibrahim Rasheed stated in the parliamentary session that the project has been delayed even with USD 25 million being given to hasten the work. He asked the Minister when the project would be completed.
In his response, the Minister said that the project work is currently behind schedule but noted that the government has no plans to revise the completion date for the project.
Aslam said that even with the delay, the work on the project continues without stopping. He said that currently, the contractor is working on the casting yard on the Gulheefalhu side.
The Minister also said that the work of this bridge is different from that of the Sina Male' Bridge that connects Male' and Hulhumale' which was built by China.
He added that the current pillars being installed would remain there even when the bridge work is completed.
The Thila Male' Bridge is being built by an Indian infrastructure company named AFCONS.
