The governments of the Maldives and Serbia have signed key agreements to bolster the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The agreements were signed during Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdullah Shaheed's trip to the South Eastern European country.

Maldives signed 4 key agreements with Serbia which include;

  1. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the Republic of Serbia on Trade, Investment, and Economic Cooperation
  2. Air Services Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the Republic of Serbia
  3. Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives on Cooperation in the Field of Diplomatic Education
  4. Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Sports between the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Serbia

Speaking about the agreements signed yesterday, Minister Shahid said via Twitter that the air Services agreement between the two countries would not only allow direct flights between our two countries but will also increase people-to-people ties between the Maldives and Serbia as well as boost the Maldivian tourism industry.

On the agreement in the field of sports, Minister Shahid said that this agreement opens new doors for Maldivian athletes to train and gain experience in Serbia.
