The Opposition PPM has accused the government of deliberately driving the President's motorcade into the opposition protesters last night.

Police last night arrested four men from the opposition's protests for impeding President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's motorcade which approached the PPM's office on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, the spot where the opposition has been regularly holding its protests since former President Abdullah Yameen's conviction last year.

One of those arrested includes the MP for Naifaru Constituency Ahmed Shiyam.

In a statement today, PPM said that the fact that the President's motorcade 'barged' into the protests while they had been gathering in front of the party office was not a mere coincidence and that this was a planned and deliberate act.

PPM further said that this showed the lack of responsibility from the Police and MNDF and called on an independent organization to investigate the two agencies and take affirmative action.

The opposition also spoke about the arrest of MP Shiyam and said that the MP was not even at the scene of the incident when the protesters impeded the Presidential motorcade and that he was arrested as a criminal to deflect blame from the security forces who had failed to protect the President.

The government or the concerning agencies have yet to say anything about the incident last night.
