Maldives Reform Movement MRM says it would be holding more discussions with MDP before deciding on whether or not to stay on with the coalition.

MRM said today that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had today met with MRM leader and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

It did not reveal the details of the discussion between the two but said that the two parties would be holding more discussions before MRM makes a decision on the coalition ahead of the September Presidential elections.

MRM added that it would reveal the decision after the talks with MDP.

The meeting comes a few days after Maumoon returned home to the Maldives after almost 2 months abroad.

His Maldives Reform Movement MRM is currently a coalition partner of the Solih administration but has yet to declare its alliance ahead of the September Elections. MRM had said before that it would be making a decision when Maumoon returns to the Maldives.

President Solih who is looking to be elected for a second term has already bagged the support of coalition partner Adhaalath and new member Maldives Democratic Alliance MDA but has lost the support of its strongest coalition partner JP.

JP has decided to field its own candidate in the election through a coalition in which it would hold majority power.
