Table Tennis Player Fathimath Dheema Ali bagged three major honors at the Maldives Sports Awards 2023 held last night.

Dheema was named Sports Woman of the Year while she was always awarded the Most Promising female Young Athlete of the Year along with the best female athlete of the year in Table Tennis.

Body Builder Azneen Rashad was awarded Sportsman of the year while he was also named the Best male athlete of the year in Body Building.

National football team player Hamza Mohamed was awarded the best male footballer of 2023 while Bodyboarding athlete Aamin Umar Moosa was awarded the most promising male young athlete of the year.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih presented the most prestigious awards at the function, including the Lifetime Achievement Award to five individuals for their long service to sports and the Sports Icon Award to eight international sportspersons for their role in creating positive social change through sports.

The President also conferred the Special Recognition Award on 16 individuals for their role in promoting sports in the Maldives and their hard work in bringing positive change to communities through sports. He also presented the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards.

This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on the late Ibrahim Manik, the late Ahmed Riza, the late Ahmed Manik, Ahmed Waheed, and Mallaa Lhathuhthu. The Special Recognition Award was conferred on the Minister of Youth and Sports of Nigeria, Sunday Akin Dare.

The Maldives Sports Awards are the most significant national sports award ceremony held in the Maldives to recognize, encourage, and celebrate Maldivian athletes. The awards were first held in 2022.
