MP for Maradhoo Constituency Ibrahim Shareef has accused the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed of being involved in the biggest scandal reported in the history of the country, the MMPRC scandal.
MP Shareef, who is an avid supporter of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, said today at Parliament that Nasheed was one of the political leaders that paved way for the scandal.
He said that Nasheed teamed up with former President Abdullah Yameen to orchestrate the scandal through former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.
Shareef implied that the Speaker had made a 'deal' with Adeeb in order to get exonerated from a jail sentence. He further said that former MDP Chairperson Hassan Latheef, MDP's Vice President Mohamed Shifaz, and the husband of the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Eva Abdullah went to Adeeb to get money via the scandal.
The MP went on to say that back then MDP members had no power of their own and that Nasheed should take responsibility for all the 'deals' done back then. He added that there was evidence that Nasheed was involved in the scandal.
MP Shareef further said that Nasheed was behind that the deal that saw former Vice President Adeeb be transferred to his home to serve his sentence after agreeing to be a State's witness.
