A tourist dies while on a diving excursion at Rasdhoo Madivaru diving point in Alifu Alifu Atoll.
Police said that the tourist was rushed to the Atoll Hospital in Alifu Alifu Atoll earlier today but was later pronounced dead around 9:12 am in the morning.
Police cited the hospital to confirm that the tourist had been dead on arrival at the hospital.
They identified the victim of the tragic incident as a 46-year-old man from the United Kingdom. Police said that they were further investigating the incident.
The reason behind the incident still remains unclear.
Unfortunately, such tragedies are common in the Maldives. Earlier this year a tourist snorkeling near Kaafu Atoll Thulusdhoo was killed after a speedboat drove over him.
The Captain of the speedboat, a local man was arrested days after the incident.
