President of Maldives Democratic Alliance MDA Ahmed Siyam says before the problem with MDP was the person leading it as well as the difference of opinion on religious matters but these have now been resolved.

This comes after MDA decided to back President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the upcoming Presidential Elections.

Speaking at the party's national congress, Siyam said that in the past 17 years, MDA has opposed MDP and that it was because of one person. Siyam was indirectly referring to the President of MDP Mohamed Nasheed.

Siyam further said that then the biggest issue was that person's views and comments on religious matters.

He noted that the face of the party has now changed and that the person now at the helm won't joke about the religion.

Siyam said that he had questioned President Solih about his religious views and that President Solih had assured religious scholars have been given freedom and that all matters related to religion were decided with the advice from the scholars.

He added that President Solih is diligent in his prayers and religous activities and is a man of his word.
