Maldives Democratic Party MDP has announced that it would hold a special gathering this Friday to officially hand over its Presidential ticket to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The President competed in the party's Primary held last month alongside party President and Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed and won comfortably with a margin of nearly 9,000 votes.
MDP said that the gathering would be held on Friday and that it would be held at the carnival area in Male'. The Party said that the event is set to begin at 08:15 pm.
It added that all were invited to take part in the ceremony.
Many from across the country are expected to come to Male' to attend the gathering.
Though the President has promised that MDP would unite following its first-ever competitive Presidential Primary, his opponent Nasheed has been working to form a separate branch within the Party to promote his own ideology.
MDP has given green light for the branch but said that it would not tolerate a branch that went against the party's Presidential ticket holder.
