A speedboat docked at Meemu Atoll Dhiggaru lagoon has caught fire and injured two individuals.

Speaking to 'the Press' about the incident President of Dhiggaru Council Ahmed Nishan said that this incident occurred around 09:50 in the morning.

Nishan said that two individuals had suffered serious burns in the incident and that both the victims have now been transferred to Male' for treatment.

He added that both the victims suffered serious burns on their legs.

Nishan said that he was not sure what has caused the fire on the speedboat.

He said that the fire was extinguished within 30 minutes and that police along with members of the public put the fire out.

Nishan noted that employees from MTCC helped put out the fire. He added that the speedboat has sunk and then retrieved from the lagoon.

Reports have confirmed that 90 percent of the vessel was damaged in the fire.
