Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has arrived in the Maldives ahead of the inauguration ceremony for the mega airport project in Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo estimated to cost MVR 2 billion.

The Minister was received at Maafaru International Airport, by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President of the Noonu Atoll Council, and members of the Noonu Maafaru Council.

The Foreign Ministery said that during the visit Dr. Jaishankar is scheduled to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony of the Hanimaadhoo International Airport Development Project, being constructed under the Indian Line of Credit. During the visit, the Minister of External Affairs will call on the President of the Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.

It also said that both Ministers are scheduled to hold official talks and witness the exchange of several Memorandums of Understanding between the two countries at a ceremony to be held in Noonu Manadhoo.

Minister of External Affairs will also participate in the inauguration ceremony of the Shaviyani Foakaidhoo Community Centre. Additionally, during the visit, the Minister of External Affairs will visit Haa Alif Utheemu and tour the historical sites.

This is Minister Dr. Jaishankar’s fourth visit to the Maldives, in his capacity as the Minister of External Affairs of India. His last visit was in March 2022 to Addu City.
