Police have released 7 individuals arrested from last night's opposition protest organized to condemn the 11-year jail sentence given against former President Abdullah Yameen.

Yameen was given a jail sentence after he was convicted of money laundering and accepting bribes over the sale of Aaarah.

He was sentenced on the 25th of last month and the opposition has been staging a series of protests since then.

The opposition said that the verdict against the former President was politically motivated and that they would not accept such a verdict against the PPM/PNC Coalition's Presidential Candidate Yameen.

Police arrested 11 individuals from the protest last night and these individuals include members from PPM and PNC's councils.

PPM said today that out of the individuals arrested last night, all but 4 have now been released.

The opposition has vowed to continue its rally until Yameen is released from jail. The opposition leadership has said that the verdict against Yameen was given to prevent him from competing in the Presidential Election scheduled for later this year.
