Police say workers from the Indian company AFCONS are protesting in Gulheefalhu.
AFCONS is the contractor for the Thila Male' Bridge project and has workers stationed in Gulheefalhu, Male' and Villimale for the mega project.
Police said today that they received the report of the protest around 10:32 in the morning and that Police are now on the scene.
They did not give information about how many workers were involved or why they were protesting.
Sources have said that AFCONS management is now holding discussions with the workers involved in the protests and that they are now sharing their concerns with the management.
The protests at Gulheefalhu follow after a fire broke out at the AFCONS accommodation block on Gulheefalhu last Thursday.
Police confirmed that 76 people were injured in the fire and that 6 out of these victims were seriously injured. Authorities had said that 63 out of the 76 were being treated at Treetop Hospital in Hulhumale and that the rest were being treated at IGMH in Male'.
The whole accommodation block had been burnt down in the fire and the company management has now made arrangements for temporary shelter for those stranded by the fire.
