Former Spokesperson for MDP and MP for Maafanu Medhu Constituency Imthiyaz Fahmy says the leader of MDP Mohamed Nasheed is traveling to Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo but it is not to launch the campaign for the party primary.
This comes amid reports that Nasheed is planning to launch his campaign for the party primary this Friday in Thinadhoo.
While some media outlets have already reported this, MP Imthiyaz who is close to Nasheed said that the Speaker of the Parliament is traveling to Thinadhoo but not to launch his own campaign.
MDP members supporting Nasheed have formed a WhatsApp group named 'Anni Primary' to hold discussions on his campaign.
The Party has not decided when it would hold the primary ahead of the Presidential Elections. It had given dates on several occasions but these dates have since passed.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed would compete in the Primary as both have expressed their interest in representing the party in the next election.
While MDP remains undecided on its Presidential Candidate, the opposition PPM/PNC Coalition had unanimously agreed to handover its Presidential Candidacy to former President Abdullah Yameen.
