A local man has died after going diving in Meemu Atoll.
Police cited the Mee Atoll Mulee Regional Hospital and said that a man who went diving was reported dead around 10:55 yesterday.
They identified the victim as a 49-year-old man. Police said that preliminary findings show that the man had died while he was diving.
They added that the Police were further investigating his death.
Local media have identified the victim as Ahmed Hassan of Noonu Atoll Velidhoo, Janbuge. His body has been brought to Male' and his funeral prayers were held after Fajr's prayers earlier today.
Fatal diving incidents have increased over the months in the Maldives with both local and foreign divers succumbing to their deaths in the depths of the ocean.
