Police say they have now identified all the victims who died in the fire in the Maafanu ward of Male' last in the early hours of last Thursday.

A total of 10 people have died in the fire that spread to two houses in Male and one is currently in critical condition.

While the authorities have said that some of the victims of the fire were burnt to the point that it was difficult to determine their gender, Police have later revealed that the fire claimed five men and four women. Police further said that three of the women were Indian and 4 of the men were also Indian. The remaining two victims were identified as Bangladeshi.

Police said at that time that they were still working to identify one more victim.

Today, Police revealed the last victim as an Indian man. This takes the total number of Indians killed in this fire to a staggering 8.

Police also said that the Maldivian Foreign Ministry has shared the information of the deceased with their families and the relevant embassies.

They also said that Police were making arrangements to send the bodies of the deceased to their countries if their families requested the transfer.

This fire has been reported as one of the most devastating fires in recent times and originated from Nirufehi house in Iskandar Magu in Male' and spread to a nearby building. Both building houses migrant labor quarters and authorities are still not able to state how many were living in these dwellings.
