Ten people have died in a fire that happened in a house in the Maafannu District of Male' in the early hours of today.
Officials are yet to confirm the nationality of those who died in the fire that started around 12 midnight.
Authorities have confirmed that a fire was reported from M. Nirufehi located in Iskandar Magu of the capital city. Sources have said that the fire then spread to the nearby house named Senrose.
Both buildings house migrant workers and it is still unclear how many lived in those buildings. Neighbors say one of the quarters' houses around 20 foreigners and that they have seen many come out of the building on several occasions.
Media reports say that authorities have saved 14 people from the fire which took hours to control.
Authorities have not confirmed the cause of the fire and are still searching the area.
While one victim remains critically injured and is being treated at the hospital, authorities fear that the death toll is likely to rise.
This is one of the worst fires the country has seen as per casualties.
