The Parliament's Secretariate has finally announced that MP for Villingilli Constituency Saud Hussain will now represent MDP at the parliament following his decision to join the majority party almost 7 months back.
Speaking before today's session, Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed said that MP Saud, who had been an independent MP, has joined MDP and has submitted all the appropriate documents to support his change of alliance at the parliament as per the regulations of the legislative house.
MP Saud's decision to change his political representation further strengthens MDP's majority power in the house.
Right now, MDP has 66 seats while the opposition PPM has only 6 seats. PNC, JP and MNP each have 3 members in the parliament. While MDA has 3 seats, there are 4 independent MPs in the parliament right now.
MP Saud's decision also affects the composition of the National Security Committee (241 Committee) and the Speaker has the task to choose an MP that does not belong to any political party to sit on the Committee.
The Speaker said that he would take the decision after holding discussions with the Parliament's Majority and Minority Leaders.
